Sautéed Bouef Tartare

Today Tommy spent his time in the Louvre.

He said when the museum opened at 9 the line moved pretty quick and he was inside within fifteen minutes.

Mom and I made our way to Rue Cler which is a super cute market street. There we found a cafe and had crêpes for breakfast.

The cute part of Rue Cler is only about a block, it's very small. So we shopped down one side then back up the next then decided to make our way to the Champs-Élysées for more shopping. A huge section of the street was closed to cars so it because a huge pedestrian area. So many shops and so many people!

Of course we had lunch at a cafe.

We met Tommy back at the apartment and decided to check out the "little" park that we can see from the living room window. Well, it's not little at all. There's like, 3 museums in there and a little zoo. Tons of flower gardens, apple and cherry blossom trees and people. The park is huge and well loved by the looks of it.

For dinner we went to, you guessed it, another cafe, and had the sautéed bouef tartare with cheese on a sesame bun.

Here's some stuff from The Lourve.

Here's your dang Mona Lisa picture.

Oh fine, here's some other stuff I found.

Winged Victory

Here's a painting of chickens protecting their chicks.

This one's a Davinci that I enjoyed more than the one everyone seems so excited about. Her drip is more on point, and she doesn't look as if she'd complain to the waiter.

I spent a bit of time in the Etruscan section. There were less people and for some reason I'm into pre-Roman Italian city states. I learned sometimes they'd bury the urns of their dead and put a pot on top.

Tomorrow is another food tour and hopefully a church with a tower tour!

Baths and The Abbey

Hey y'all, we're back with another record of our day. We got up after getting varied amounts of sleep depending on which one of us you ask, and had breakfast at our accommodation before heading down around 9:15 to appear at our reserved time slot for the Roman Baths Museum complex.  The reason Bath exists as a town is the result of the natural hot springs found in this location. Peoples from the various time periods and geographic locations have all come here in some way as result of these springs made up of ancient waters that first landed in the Mendip hills before working there way down into the earth where it is super heated, and pushed up on this very spot! Because the complex is a combination of Roman and Georgian architecture, and it's from these time periods we have the most material evidence and as a result is our primary lens for looking through the structure.  The Romans built a bath and temple complex dedicating the location to Sulis Minerva, a syncreti...

Flight, Day - 1

We're flying out of Sea-Tac airport today at 7:50pm (hopefully) and will arrive at London Heathrow airport on 3/26/25 at 12:15 GMT (4:15am PST)! That means about nine hours in the air, then maybe a couple hours to get from Heathrow to our final destination. Again--hopefully. The last time I (Tommy) tried this whole flying to Europe thing the fates were against a timely arrival, but hopefully the name Pankratz will provide better luck.  It'll be a long day, but we'll get through it. Once we land we'll take the Heathrow Express 1 to London Paddington Station 2 . From there we'll take a train to Bath Spa 3 in Bath 4 , Somerset. It will probably be between 3 and 4:30 at that point, so we will drop our things off at the Airbnb which is very close to Bath Abbey 5 . Once sufficiently rested from our long journey while also fighting the urge to sleep, we will walk around for a bit then have dinner at The Raven pub 6 . Who knows what we'll do at that point. We might f...

Utrecht

Well, we are definitely wearing down so it's good we're at the tail end of our trip. Unfortunately, Janet woke up sick this morning so she stayed home to rest. Libby also feels like she's coming down with a cold--she's getting stuffy.  Today Libby and I went to a town south of Amsterdam called Utrecht. It was a good deal larger than I expected. We had originally planned to take the fairly grueling tram ride all the way to Amsterdam Centraal, and catch the train from there to Utrecht (like we did when we went to Arnhem), but I realized we could take the tube to Centaal from a tram stop just a few stops away. Then, on our walk to the tram stop I realized we could take the metro from that stop to a train station that is closer to both us and Utrecht. I'm annoyed we've been suffering this +40 minute tram ride into the city corner when we could be getting off at Leydan station, and taking the metro (a ~7min ride) to the same place.  Live and learn. Hopefully we will ...
